This is rough cut 16, in which I worked on the fast paced sequence when the first beat drops. I put the narrative in black and white because it focused too much on the shot, since it was so much brighter than the other shots used. The next cut will be a definite final cut, since our audience feedback from our teacher was that everything was good except for the fast paced sequence in which I should make the takes longer rather than 4 miliseconds and I should take out the dark shot of the wood running sequence, because it made it look as if I had cut it to black in final cut.

SR: Rough cut #15
This is rough cut 15 that I edited after having gotten audience feedback from our teacher. In this version I have tried to achieve good instruments verisimilitude. Also, I have focused on the points my teacher mentioned in the audience feedback such as removing the layer behind the flickering effect and trying to layer the pool shot onto other shots. However, the pool take was too short and so I couldn't put it over 5 shots. Therefore I decided to put it in as a separate shot and not layer it.

SR: Rough Cut #14
This is rough cut 14 in, which I included the footage of our female protagonist burning some pictures of her and the male protagonist. I think the next cut will be our final cut.

SR: Rough Cut #13
This is rough cut 13, in which we included the new narrative footage that we filmed on Thursdsay the 16th of March, as stated in Production Schedule UPDATE 9. Besides the new narrative there are no major changes to it and we will film our female protagonist burning the pictures on Tuesday the 21st of March as stated in Production Schedule UPDATE 10.

SR: Rough Cut #12
This is the 12th rough cut of our music video Throne. In this video I have changed a few slight things such as layering a shot behind the fast paced sequence from 53 seconds onwards. Also, I have added a black and white effect on all of the narrative footage.
This could be a final cut, however the narrative is a bit thin and therefore we will be filming more on Thursday as I will also state in production schedule UPDATE 9.

SR: Rough Cut 11
This is the rough cut 11, which I edited after having gotten the feedback from our teacher on rough cut 10. I believe that rough cut 12 will be the final cut.
SR: Rough Cut 10
In this rough cut 10 I have changed quite a lot of small details but also some big ones.
Firstly I have layered some shots onto the narrative part where our couple is still happy. These shots on the left both had really good opportunity for layering, because there was a lot of empty space in the frame. I think the layering is better in the second shot than in the first one, because there is more movement in the first shot, which makes the layering look a bit off and therefore I will probably try to use another shot also to evidence some more shot variety.

However, if we get audience feedback saying that these shots are good, I will leave them the way they are now.
Another change to Rough Cut 3 Draft 1 is that I have put the fast paced sequence that was at the end of the music video when the beat dropped, I have put that in the middle of the music video instead after a beat drops there, because I thought it looked more fitting. Than towards the end I added some more fast paced editing of shots cutting to the beat, which is one of the 6 features of a music video (Andrew Goodwin Theory) and I think it works really well.

I have tried to achieve full lip-syncing verismilitude in this draft, because that was argued in the audience feedback that it wasn't synced enough. Since, it is one of the common conventions of a music video and one of the first things the audience notices is if it is not in sync.

Rough Cut 9
This is the full version of the video in which I created the last 15 seconds up until the lead singer is taking his headphones out of his ears in the bus.
I came up with this idea of the bus scene, since I though it would be a nice way to end the video.

SR: Rough Cut 8
This is the 8th rough cut in, which I focused on getting the final beat drop done with editing, by cutting it to 4 milliseconds per shot and then adding in the drums color powder scene in between. A challenge was to get it completely synced to the song and also sync the moment the drummer hits the drum to the beat.
SR: Rough Cut 7
This is rough cut 7 in which I put in the new footage that Kristian filmed on narrative and moving the other narrative part where the couple fights towards the end of the video. Also, I have tried to play a bit around with editing for the last beat drop and will evidence to full result in Rough Cut 7.

SR: Rough Cut 6
WHAT WE DID: CHALLENGING THE CONVENTION OF THE ROCK GENRE BY USING MORE COLORS
In this our rough cut 6, I have changed a lot of things, which I will go through below.
Some basic things I have changed include: better lip-syncing, more shots and changing the narrative so that there would be more scenes. However, my main focus of this draft has really been the green screen. After having used elements from Footage Crate, I realised that I had to sign up and pay monthly to get the very good color powder/ink videos. Therefore I decided to go for VFX videos from YouTube. You can read a detailed post about on my blog.
I quickly discovered that it would be best to layer the leadsinger behind the color powder/ink but then changing the opacity of the ink because it would simply look better than if the leadsinger had been in front of the ink. I decided to make the green screen shots a bit longer than the usual ones, because the ink has such a nice effect and in my opinion it would be a shame for it to be on screen for less than a second. However, depending on the audience feedback I get from rough cut 2 draft 2, I might just clip the shots and split them by putting other shots in between, or I will make them shorter since fast-paced editing is also part of the genre specific convention of a metal core genre music video.
In this our rough cut 6, I have changed a lot of things, which I will go through below.
Some of the audience feedback we got from our teacher was that there should be more narrative in the video, such as happy couple scenes. Another suggestion that was discussed was a diegetic outtro, because it is a good way to denote that the music video is over and is a good way to end it rather than just fading to black screen. Furthermore, our teacher mentioned that there should be some more fast paced editing towards the ending, which is what Kristian aims at doing after I have added all of the effects and layered onto the green screen etc. The other elements, such as the diegetic outtro we intend to film this week and cut and edit this week.

Due to the fact that it is a rock genre and not a pop genre music video, there shouldn't be too many different colors since that is a key element of the pop genre. However, in our music video we have challenged the convention by adding some different bright colors such as red, pink, purple and as you can see above a mixture of colors including green and blue also.

Throne: Rough Cut 5
This is the 2nd rough cut that I edited, in this draft I added on to the missing seconds at the end of the video and also tried to sync some footage that was of. In the next draft we will add on some more shots until the video is complete, we will also be filming some more narrative that we will add on and to finish it of add any special effects needed, mostly the green screen footage.

SR: Rough Cut 4
This is the 4th rough cut that I created for our track Throne. It contains 2 minutes and 30 seconds worth of footage.
Some of the things that I have changed include to switch the narrative around so that it is a more linear narrative rather than fragmented narrative.
Besides that I added in some more pool footage, because it is a good element of the music video as well as the color powder. I changed the look of the pool scenes by adding an effect called Tint, whereafter I then changed the color slightly so it would look more realistic and as if it was an ocean. Andrew Goodwin's theory on 6 features of a music video outlines that one of the main features of a music video is that there is a link between the visuals and the lyrics. This is what I intended to create with the pool scenes. There are several times where the singer is singing about "lost in the ocean" or "blue", which then fits well with the underwater footage.
Also, I took some of the running scenes out because some audience had argued that there were too many running scenes. I also tried to edit more to the beat and bring in some of our green screen footage that we filmed last Tuesday. My post on green screen goes into detail about what exactly we did that day and which type of footage we got.

SR: Audience Feedback 2: Throne Rough Cut 3
This is the audience feedback that we got after having posted our 3rd draft of rough cut 1that I edited. Our audience feedback will weekly help us to reflect on what we can do better. Some of the negative points mentioned include:
- Less running sequence
- More pool scenes
- Clearer narrative
- More color powder because the effect looked good
- Work with color correction

SR: Rough Cut 2: Throne
This is my 2nd rough cut, which contains 1 min and 40 seconds worth of footage. I intend to post about 3-4 drafts in total of rough cut 1 in order to later on in the year do a post on "My Journey", such as last year. The "My Journey" post is supposed to reflect my work over the year and will also be a useful post for evaluation.
SR: Rough Cut 1: Throne
This is the first 1 minute rough cut that I created for our music video "Throne". We filmed all of the footage last week, however we will film more when we have a trip to a green screen room here in Luxembourg. With the green screen footage we intend to film the lead-singer, lead guitarist and bass guitarist and layer on top of this footage. We will film several sequences such as: a time-lapse of clouds passing over the sky, a sunrise (if we can get it), fire, which we will layer on top of the individual band members.
I will create and upload a full first rough cut by Friday the 27th of January and we will get audience feedback on our rough cut's each week.

SR: Reflection on pool shoot
Kristian and I went to shoot the pool scenes in a pool here in Luxembourg. For this we decided to use a waterproof GoPro so that we could not only get shots of him falling into the water from above, but also underwater. The underwater scenes turned out as the best ones in our opinion, which is also the reason for why we have included so much underwater footage. In conclusion, the shoot turned out quite well and Kristian and I were really happy with what we filmed that day.
We got our inspiration for the underwater footage from two main videos. One of them being MVid EG9 - Runnin' by Naughty Boy ft. Beyoncé on my blog and the other one being This is Gospel by Panic At The Disco, which Bronwen blogged on.

After having looked at these two videos, I quickly came to the conclusion that we had to work a lot with special effects for the water to look like an ocean and more ominous rather than a general light blue pool. The picture you see here on the left, is the footage without any effects added yet, whereas the footage below is after I added effects.
In Final Cut Pro I therefore decided to use one of the color effects called Tint. I had also worked quite a lot with the Tint color effect at AS and had a good experience with it. Hence I decided to go back to this special effect and work with it.
The bubbles that automatically appeared because I was underwater also had a really nice effect and gave an "extra touch" to the shot, rather than it just being shaky underwater footage.
When working with Tint, it was really important to change the color and work with the amount of Tint there should be in it. If I hadn't changed the color it wouldn't look at all like it does above, since it would really have turned very dark blue and not have the desired effect of an open ocean.

SR: Rough Cut #1: Follow You
This is the first 40 second rough cut that I edited together. As Kristian mentioned in his post there is some footage that we can't use due to the camera being in the shot or other reasons. Unfortunately, I tried to see if there was some footage we could use, but didn't find any useful parts.
